The Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra is a 174-year-old heritage building located in the picturesque surroundings of Mashobra, Himachal Pradesh.
The Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra stands proud as a 174-year-old heritage icon, sprawling over 10,628 sq. ft. It is the official summer retreat of the Hon’ble President of India. This enchanting estate, set amidst the serene landscape of Himachal Pradesh, comprises of a grand building as its main core surrounded by vibrant orchards, expansive lawns and tranquil trails amidst the beautiful nature.
In a historic shift in 1965, initiated by President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the Rashtrapati Niwas was designated as the Presidential retreat, transitioning from its previous counterpart, the Viceregal Lodge, which subsequently became home to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS).
In another landmark move in April 2023, Rashtrapati Niwas opened its doors to the public for the first time, offering a unique glimpse into its historical and cultural significance. The bookings for the visit may be done both online and offline which are available from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. The last entry is permitted at 5 pm, and the tours are open on all days except mondays and public holidays.
The President of India extends a warm invitation to everyone to explore and experience the grandeur of the Rashtrapati Niwas, which is the significant symbol of India's rich heritage.
The Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra is 12 km from Shimla (via Dhalli Bypass and NH 5) and 5 km from Kufri (via NH 5).
It is advisable to take buses on Shimla ⇋ Kufri route to reach Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra.
Shimla railway station is approximately 13 km from Mashobra. One can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Rashtrapati Niwas.
Shimla Airport (also known as Jubbarhatti Airport) is approximately 32 km from Mashobra. One can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Rashtrapati Niwas.
Note : Visitors are requested to enter from Gate No 1 and park their vehicles outside Gate No 1.
