Nestled in the lush, serene environs of Dehradun, Rashtrapati Niketan stands as a symbol of India’s presidential heritage and a beacon of democratic openness. For the first time in its 186-year history, this historic 21-acre estate has opened for the public, inviting visitors to experience a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.
Rashtrapati Niketan’s origins date back to 1838, when it was established as a summer camp for the horses of the Governor General’s Bodyguard. The estate’s central bungalow, built in 1920 for the commandant of the unit, later became a cherished presidential retreat. Over the years, it has hosted several Presidents of India, serving as a sanctuary for both the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) and their horses during the intense Delhi summers.
The estate’s beautifully landscaped gardens—including the Lily Pond, Rockery Pond, Rose Garden, and Pergola—offer tranquil spaces for relaxation and reflection, showcasing the estate’s harmonious blend of natural beauty and heritage.
