About

Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra

The Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra, standing proudly as a 174-year-old heritage icon, sprawls over 10,628 sq. ft. as the official summer retreat for the Hon’ble President of India. This enchanting estate, set amidst the serene landscape of Himachal Pradesh, comprises a grand main building, vibrant orchards, expansive lawns, and tranquil nature trails.

In a historic shift in 1965, initiated by President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the Rashtrapati Niwas was designated as the presidential retreat, transitioning from its previous counterpart, the Viceregal Lodge, which subsequently became the home to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS).

In another landmark move in April 2023, Rashtrapati Niwas opened its doors to the public for the first time, offering a unique glimpse into its historical and cultural significance. Visitors can book tours both online and offline, available from 10 AM to 6 PM. The last entry is permitted at 5 PM, and the tours are open on all days except Mondays and public holidays.

The President of India extends a warm invitation to everyone to explore and experience the grandeur of the Rashtrapati Niwas, a significant symbol of India's rich heritage.
